Please join us as we celebrate Cider Monday as the alternative to the much-hyped Cyber Monday - that day when so many have historically gone online to fill the coffers of the huge online behemoths. We offer a simple gesture – stop in and an enjoy a free cup of delicious wholesome cider and share a moment or two of reflection and thankfulness for all those who have deliberately chosen to keep some or all of their business local.
Cider Monday? Incider enthusiasts are preparing for the annual celebration of Cider Monday on November 27th . Cider Monday is the bricks and mortar response to Cyber Monday and the frenzy of online shopping associated with Black Friday and its invasion of Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is the Monday following Thanksgiving. That day last year according to Adobe Insights 11.3 billion dollars left our communities for online purchases from distant impersonal warehouses when millions of people chose to shop online. Cider Monday, the same day, is when local indie stores offer a refuge from the frenzy and a reminder of the contributions a bricks and mortar store can make to your local community. Whether it is hardware, groceries, clothing, books, gifts or other items these stores are the places you encounter your neighbors and community members. As we mingle in these stores we share in our necessities and find commonalities in our lives that can truly help bind us together in a greater understanding and empathy for each other. Businesses celebrating Cider Monday offer a simple gesture – stop in and an enjoy a free cup of delicious wholesome cider and share a moment or two of reflection and thankfulness for all those who have deliberately chosen to keep some or all of their business local.
Cider Monday began with a splash and a few spills 11 years ago among independent stores in New England.
Locally owned stores everywhere are encouraged to join in. It’s simple, be in your store that Monday to greet everyone with some cider and a heartfelt thanks for shopping locally. Last year several communities got involved in a town wide celebration and invited shop hopping cider fans to sample the ciders at the various independents in town.
